Eleven GOP candidates appear at Log Cabin night

Columbus-Eleven Republican candidates for county and regional offices gathered at the upstairs meeting room of Columbus' Out on Main Restaurant on Monday, October 19 to meet with members of the Log Cabin Republican Club of Columbus.

In a business-like yet informal atmosphere, the candidates outlined their campaign positions and answered questions from the audience.

"The turnout of candidates was very encouraging," said John Kost, president of the Log Cabin Club of Columbus. “The growing visibility of Log Cabin is helping us to gain in members and importance."

Candidates for Franklin County offices, state representative, state senator and federal offices mingled with Log Cabin members and then spoke to the entire group.

singing group; songwriter and vocalist Katherine Payne; and Relative Obscurity, a Manhattan Transfer-style quartet.

"In searching for a theme for this year's even, the Beyond Ribbons committee kept throwing out ideas of 'hope' and all the support we get from so many different places," said Mike Readinger, co-chair of the event. "It became apparent to us that we are really fortunate to have so many talented, giving people who make our work possible. Our funders, staff, board, volunteers, clients and even this year's entertainers, have all been 'touched' by the disease and they

MUSE

Cincinnati-The long-awaited second CD of Muse Cincinnati Women's Choir, Sing to the Universe Who We Are, is finished and will be available for the first time on November 7. Seventeen audience favorites of this local feminist choir directed by Dr. Catherine Roma, such as "Take Back the Guns," "Everything Possible,” “On Children," "Let Us Now Hold Hands," and "Babetandaza" were recorded in May at the acoustically alive Quaker Meeting House in Indian Hill. The title of the recording, Sing to the Universe Who We Are, is taken from a beautifully expressive piece on the CD. “We Are,” which is one part of a larger New Spirituals Project composition by Ysaye Maria Barnwell of Sweet Honey in the Rock that declares "We are our grandmothers' prayers, and we are our grandfathers' dreamings, we are the breath of our ancestors, we are the spirit of God... For each child that's born, a morning star rises and sings to the universe who we are... We are One."

a telling of stories about the recording experience, a dramatic contribution from the a cappella quintet Sisterfriends, and as always, new repertoire, including a newly arranged composition Kwanza "Harambe," and the World War II peace song Tzena, Tzena, which was sent to Muse by Pete Seeger along with the request that it be sung with verses in Hebrew and Arabic.

CINCINNATI'S WOMEN'S CHOIR

Muse has been singing to the universe who they are with passion and purpose for 15 years now, and are kicking off their 16th season with both a CD release concert and the very special honor of having been chosen to be profiled on the PBS series, The Visionaries. Plans are still tentative, but it appears that during this season, a professional crew from WGBU in Boston will make several visits to Cincinnati in an attempt to capture the essence of Muse on film
